#YouAreWelcomeHere

Classroom

#YouAreWelcomeHere started as a hashtag in video outreach of some universities back in 2016. It then got traction and attention - and today, it is a welcome message from U.S. higher education to international students worldwide. Although the campaign started in higher education, many U.S. high schools are using the message to demonstrate their support of international students.

How it Started

Since June 1, 2019, NAFSA has served as the official coordinating body of the official #YouAreWelcomeHere Twitter account, Facebook page, and website, supporting more than 300 participating institutions and countless organizations.

Scholarship

More than 50 institutions offer #YouAreWelcomeHere scholarships to make studying in the U.S. possible for even more high-achieving students. Participating colleges and universities will each offer two annual, renewable scholarships that cover a minimum of 50% tuition to selected international undergraduates dedicated to furthering the #YouAreWelcomeHere message. Applicants are required to either answer a short essay question or present a multimedia project about their ideas for applying their leadership skills on their future campuses.
